  • Asphalt pavement provides a smooth and long lasting driveway
  • Asphalt provides a weather resistant and erosion free surface
  •  A beautiful asphalt driveway will increase the value and curb appeal of your home

Asphalt is the perfect material for paving your driveway. It is a type of pavement that is commonly used on parking lots and driveways. It is made by mixing together aggregate (such as gravel or sand), binder (asphalt or tar), and filler (such as clay).

Asphalt is known for its durability and weather resistance, making it an ideal choice for areas that experience heavy rain or snow. In addition, asphalt is also resistant to erosion, meaning that it will not be washed away by rain or other water sources. As a result, asphalt provides a solid and reliable solution to dirt, stone and gravel driveways.

Why Asphalt Paving?

Asphalt is one of the most popular paving materials due to its durability and relatively low cost. It is weather resistant and very durable when installed correctly. Our asphalt contractors are highly skilled and specialize in installing and repairing asphalt pavement. As one of the best asphalt contractors in Bridgeport, we pride ourselves in being able to provide and properly install asphalt so that you can have a driveway that looks beautiful as well as durable for years to come.

Durable & Long Lasting:

A well constructed asphalt driveway can last between 15-20 years with minimal maintenance, provided that you choose a knowledgeable asphalt contractor who will be conscious of the quality and grade of material being used for your new surface. At Unlimited Excavation and Construction, we take the guessing out of the equation by regularly sampling and monitoring the temperature of the asphalt we are installing to ensure that you get a high-end product.

Cost Effective:

In comparison to other driveway materials such as concrete, asphalt is much less expensive to install. Additionally, asphalt driveways can be easily repaired if they crack or chip. As a result, homeowners can enjoy a smooth, level surface without breaking the bank. When it comes to driveway paving, asphalt is a clear winner in terms of cost-effectiveness.

Recyclable:

According to the National Asphalt Pavement Association, recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) is one of the most commonly used recycled materials in America. RAP can be used in a variety of paving applications, including driveway and parking lot construction. In addition, RAP can be mixed with new asphalt to create a stronger, more durable pavement.

Safety:

Asphalt paving offers many great benefits when it comes to the safety of your driveway and walkways. It provides you with the ability to control the pitch of your paved surfaces, allowing standing water to run off in a controlled manner.

Asphalt is also skid resistant, oil resistant and provides a smooth and easy to clear surface, assisting in snow removal. In addition, asphalt is dark in color and easily absorbs sunlight helping melt ice and snow. So if you are looking to have a safer and more durable driveway, Unlimited Excavation and Construction is your ultimate solution!

Our Comprehensive 6 Step Work Process

Step 1: Demolition & Removal

Our team uses a variety of heavy machinery to demolish and remove your existing surface, leaving you with a clean slate for your new project. In addition, we take care to dispose of and remove all debris from your property, so you won’t have to worry about a mess. With our experienced workers on the job, you can rest assured that your surface will be removed quickly and safely.

Step 2: Grading & Sloping

Paving a surface, whether it is for a parking lot, driveway, or patio, requires more than just laying down the asphalt. The surface needs to be graded and sloped to ensure proper drainage. Without these steps, water will pool on the surface and eventually cause cracking and other damage.

The first step in grading is to determine the slope of the surface. This is typically done with a transit or laser level. Once the slope has been determined, the next step is to excavate the area to create a level base. Finally, sand or gravel is used to fill any low spots and provide a stable foundation for the new pavement. By taking the time to properly grade and slope a surface, homeowners can help ensure that their new pavement will last

Step 3: Prepare The Sub Base

When it comes to paving, the sub-base is just as important if not more important than the asphalt itself. The sub-base provides support and stability for the asphalt, so it is important to take the time to create a solid foundation. Sub-base material should be placed and compacted in layers until the desired thickness is achieved.

The sub-base must be designed to absorb the traffic load without deforming or becoming unstable. Without a properly installed sub-base, the pavement will not be able to withstand the loads applied by your vehicles and will eventually fail.

Step 4: Adding Binder Layer

The binder, which is laid on top of the sub base, is a load-bearing material consisting of aggregate and hot-mix asphalt. Because the binder must be strong, it typically contains heavy aggregates that are approximately 3/4 inch in size. In addition to having the strength to bear the load, binder must have the ability to withstand seasonal temperature changes for as long as several decades. Like the aggregate base, the depth of the binder depends on the use to which the pavement will be subjected.

Step 5: Installing New Asphalt Surface

This layer of asphalt is the final layer that will be driven on, known as the topcoat or the finish course. Different from the binder layer, smaller aggregate is used in the topcoat to create a smooth and visually appealing surface. Most topcoats consist of aggregate that is smaller than half of an inch. The depth of the topcoat depends on the traffic the pavement is designed to bear. As expected, the topcoat is installed over the binder.

Step 6: Finishing Rolling

Asphalt finishing rolling is the process of applying a smooth, even coat of asphalt to a surface. It is typically done with a heavy roller that compress the asphalt and creates a level surface. This type of rolling is often used on roadways, parking lots, and driveway that need to be smooth and level.

The first step in asphalt finishing rolling is to make sure that the surface is clean and free of debris. Once the surface is prepared, the roller can then be used to compact the surface. Rolling is done by using a back-and-forth motion until the entire surface is smoothed. Asphalt finishing rolling is an important process in creating a visually appealing and durable surface. When done properly, it will help to extend the life of the asphalt.
